RHP Boson MiPi Interface

Overview

The RHP Boson MIPI Interface enables direct MIPI CSI connectivity for Teledyne FLIR Boson thermal imaging cameras, providing a low-latency, high-bandwidth video path suited for embedded vision platforms. Designed for engineers developing next-generation thermal systems, this interface supports flexible power configurations, synchronization options, and multiple pixel formats directly from the Boson core.

This product is intended for development and integration efforts. Driver availability and software support will depend on the target platform and may require custom driver development.

MIPI CSI Interface Capabilities

The Boson MIPI Interface supports MIPI CSI v1.1 with DPHY 1.0, configurable for single or dual lane operation.

Pixel Formats

  • RAW8 (monochrome, post-AGC)

  • RAW14 (pre-AGC)

  • 16-bit UYVY (color, post-AGC)

Single Channel Mode

  • Monochrome 8-bit

  • Monochrome 14-bit

  • Post-AGC 8-bit monochrome

  • Post-AGC 16-bit color YUV422 (UYVY)

Dual Channel Mode

  • Monochrome 8-bit & Monochrome 14-bit

  • Post-AGC 16-bit color YUV422 (UYVY) & Monochrome 8-bit

  • Post-AGC 16-bit color YUV422 (UYVY) & Monochrome 14-bit

Performance

  • MIPI DDR clock rate: 246 MHz

  • End-to-end latency: < 4.8 ms

Power & Synchronization

  • Selectable power input:

    • External 5–17 VDC

    • 3.3V CSI-powered

  • Sync voltage selectable:

    • 3.3V or 1.8V

  • Sync modes:

    • Master or Slave configuration for multi-device systems

Platform Compatibility

  • Electrically compatible with:

    • NVIDIA Jetson platforms

    • Raspberry Pi camera interfaces

  • USB UVC mode allows rapid evaluation and debugging without MIPI driver integration

Software & Driver Considerations

⚠️ Important Development Note

The Boson MIPI Interface is intended for engineering and development use. While the hardware supports standard MIPI CSI signaling, drivers may not be available for all platforms out of the box.

  • Custom driver or device-tree development may be required

  • Platform support varies by OS and kernel version

  • Recommended for teams with embedded Linux and camera driver experience

RHP can provide electrical documentation and interface guidance to support driver development efforts.
