Introducing the new FLIR Tau 2 640 35mm (46640035H-FPNLX) NFOV LWIR uncooled thermal imaging camera core. The Tau 2 640 offers 2x, 4x, and 8x continuous digital zoom, F1.1 with a 640x512 17μm pixel resolution.
New features to the FLIR Tau 2 640 include: enhanced electronics for improved image processing, continuous digital zoom, customizable splash screen, and extra memory.
All of these features are available within the same physical size as the original Tau, allowing upgrades to existing designs without having to modify size. Common electrons between the Tau 2 cameras allow direct compatibility between different Tau camera formats, and most Tau camera versions share the same lens options.
FLIR Tau 2 for OEM
The FLIR Tau 2 thermal camera core has been specially designed for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and allows you to use the thermal camera core with many different lenses. It can be easily integrated into systems that require an advanced, uncooled thermal imaging solution.
Photon and Tau both have one moving part (the shutter). The Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) is driven by the shutter. Photon’s MTBF is 108,501 hours or 12.4 yrs (for a continuous or 100% duty cycle at an ambient temperature of 23 °C). The MTBF for Tau with a shutter is similar. The MTBF for Tau without a shutter is estimated at 14.8 years, using Photon as a baseline. A Tau-specific MTBF calculation is in process.

IMPORTANT EXPORT INFORMATION The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) details the regulations governing the export of defense related materials and technologies. The U.S. Munitions List (USML) categorizes goods and technologies governed by the ITAR. FLIR's 640x512 thermal imaging products and related technical data and information are controlled for export purposes to the ITAR.
Data provided at this web site has been approved for public release, and is not export-controlled. It is a violation of the ITAR to export or re-export technical data pertaining to FLIR's 640x512 thermal imaging products (other than data approved for public release) without first receiving authorization to do so from the U.S. Department of State. This restriction does not apply to the "slow video" versions of FLIR's 640x512 thermal imaging products that operate at frame rates of less than 9Hz.
Due to the export status of FLIR's 640x512 thermal imaging products, any purchase, receipt, and/or use of any related technical data (other than data approved for public release) is contingent upon an agreement to abide by all export laws and regulations of the United States, including, without limitation, the ITAR. It is the responsibility of any organization that buys, receives, or sells for export purposes and/or uses a FLIR 640x512 thermal imaging product in a manufacturing process to register with DDTC in such cases.
